I've always been a horrible packer; I tend to bring as much stuff as possible, clothes, accessories, shoes and make up and then figure out outfits during the trip. This has not been terribly successful for me thus far and so I decided this time to come up with a different strategy.

I  am a strong believer in making your clothes work for you (literally) and so I decided to geek out when it came to packing for my trip to the Cannes Film Festival. Because I like to use personal style to stimulate imagination and be memorable, I decided to go with a general theme. I wanted to do a lot of black and white because our movie is in black and white and use punches of colours in the accessories. I also wanted to be consistant pattern wise and went for breton stripes and polka dots throughout and then completed with neutrals with great texture. Because my clothes won't be my main focus while I'm at the festival but yet it will still play a role in my PR strategy, I remixed twice as many outfits as days I'll be there (12 days, 24 outfits) with the fewest items I could, took a picture of each outfit and made an outfit chart divided in day and night, warm and cold weather looks. See, I told you I geeked out! That's what I did while you were watching tv last night...

This is either the best idea ever or I'm officially overly organized... We'll have to see! Do you have a packing strategy?

... only 3 days to go ... !!!

    1. It's my initial brooch, my married last name is Bélanger and since we (Genre d'Abattoir, our production company) are a family business, I represent!

  5. The Most Brilliant Idea Ever!!!!!!! I should learn from you in this. Though I might fail many times over until I finaly reach this... I wonder if this works for camping trips.... Any hints on that one?

  6. I also pack this way, with a theme and general mood.
Note: You don't have a bathing suit and shoes to be on the sand - it is warm enough to swim in the Med, if you'd want to, and there are film screenings on the beach at night, with the films projected onto a screen that's in the water.
Also, not sure if your hubby is going too, but don't forget a bow tie. The tickets to Cannes film screenings specify bowtie and tuxedo jacket.
I lived in Cannes for a year in 2010, if you need any tips about the area and what to see, send me an email :)
Have a blast! I miss it so much,
    Mel

    1. Your so sweet Mel! I really appreciate it.

And totally right too, I'm bringing a polka dot bathing suit and am promising myself at least one afternoon at the beach! I also wish I could bring a large brim hat, but I don't know how to pack it... I need a cute hat box! Or I'll just buy one there at Monoprix or something ;)

I had the pleasure of attending the festival in 2010 as well, my short film Raymond May Have Rabies was part of the Québec Gold special feature at the Short Film Corner and it was such a learning experience! I loved every moment of it, Cannes is amazing in more ways than one.

      Yay!

virginie, the best advice i recieved when packing for vancouver. ROLL your clothes. you wouldn't think you would get more room, but i got two whole suitcases down to 3/4's of a suitcase. it works wonders! have fun at the film festival. I LOVE all your outfits. good choices!

  11. I never have a packing strategy but rather like the idea of consistent patterns and a "theme" idea. Might have to try that the next time I pack. Love all the potential outfits and am so excited for you going to Cannes!

  12. I am obsessed with this post and all of your outfits! I wish you could have packed for me as your outfits look much cuter than the ones I packed. :)

  14. I'm the same way, I tend to over-pack - it's hard not to want to prepare for everything!
I love the ensembles you've put together - can't wait to see the final looks!

  16. Is it intentional that only some of your posts have a link to comment? Either way.. glad to see you seem to be having a fantastic time at Cannes! That beach is amazing, hope there's time to relax at it a bit : ) I'm horrible at packing too & esp have a tough time having to plan whole ensembles for several days but yours look super cute, cant wait to see more!
