Sharing The Thrifting Love ♥

red jeans, top, scarf worn as hair bow and shoes: thrifted / bangle: Simons
As you now know, I recently converted to thrift shopping and honestly, I don't know what took me so long.

I have to say I probably don't have the typical profile of a thrift shopper. I don't love shopping and I'm not the most patient. But I have put together a thrifting strategy that suits my personality and budget and now I LOVE it!

When I tell some of my friends and family members that I now thrift, they always look shocked and a little confused. You mean thrifting is not only for Halloween costumes and grungie college students?

I am wanting to share tips on thrifting in the upcoming weeks and thought I should share the story of how I became a thrifter before anything.
I never ever thrifted before last year. I come from a very bourgeois neighborhood of Montreal where, unfortunately, people judge others by how expensive their clothes are and what brands they are wearing. The type of neighborhood where you wear 200$ jeans at 15 years old. When I started University and moved out of the area to go live downtown, I was so happy to realize that style had nothing to do with your budget. And I stopped wearing labels almost completely.

When I was in my first year of getting my Master's degree I lost my job and had to learn to do so so much with so little money. It was hard but I knew it was for the better. I decided to take that time and learn to see the way I buy things differently, from food to clothes. When all of a sudden you have 6$ a week to do your groceries, you kind of find it silly that a few weeks before you spent 150$ on a fancy hoodie... I'm so thankful for that period of my life because it really made me a much better person budget wise and thought me skills that will forever be useful.

I became all about voluntary simplicity and when I met Ramiro, I shared this new point of view on life with him. I had always cared about being elegant and well put. Until we moved to Québec city a few years ago, where most people don't care about style at all. I decided to just stop thinking about fashion for a while a focus on my work as a movie producer. Only soon enough I realized that being well put was a great tool for achieving my career goals, and so I got back into the swing of things and started shopping again but on a smaller budget. I also started this blog, to keep myself creative style wise.

Then last January I decided to quit my job at the film coop to start my own production house. I knew some sacrifices had to be made and I was fine with not shopping anymore. Until I found more and more inspiring blogs whose authors were looking fabulous in thrift finds. I decided I had to give it a go. And I haven't looked back since!

I feel like there is a little social stigma towards thrifting and I want to talk more about it on the blog as to try and demystify this type of shopping.

That's why next week I will start sharing tips with you on how to make thrifting work for you and your style. I live in an a area with few thrift stores and yet I still find a way to wear lots of thrifts.

It's all in the way you look at it!

On one side it might look like a flat yellow surface. On the other it might be sun drenched and flary. Kind of like today's outfit pics ;)
Have a great Friday everyone!

  7. Oh I LOVE your colour blocking outfit, especially how they are thrifted! I am a huge fan of thrifting and consignment shopping- I probably only bought 20% of my wardrobe from retail stores. How neat that you're from Montreal- I love finding Canadian fashion bloggers! Thanks for your sweet comment, I love your style too and am looking forward to following along on your fashion journey!

  12. I love this post! Your outfit is so so adorable. I just love the red and yellow together and the lighting in your photos is stunning.

I've been thrifting a lot more too lately, as it is more cost effective. When I do buy clothing from modern stores I almost always 100% of the time use some kind of discount, shop sale, etc. However, thrifting is way more fun! Looking forward to your futures posts and tips darling:) xx Marisa

  14. I find thrifting really good for some things (dresses and blouses), and really bad for things like jeans. Mind you, I hate jeans shopping anyway! Looking forward to reading more of your thrifting tips and stories!
