MARIÈME ON THE ROOF

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of shooting a specieal OFF On The Roof video with fantastic local artist Marième (#koolmom!). We were invited by local TV channel MaTV to be part of the show Faire la Ville, which adresses different ways of occupying the urban scenery, notably it's roof. We shot on the roof of the environmental and cultural center Frederic Back in Quebec city, with grass up to our knees and vegetables growing nearby. Shooting on that roof has been a dream of mine ever since we inaugurated the series in 2010 and it is definitely the coolest green roof I have ever seen! I'll keep you posted with details of the show screening in September. Thanks to my friend Sophie Bernier for the few pics. Virginie XO

On Set ♥

Last Friday Sophie and I shot a new roof top video and it was completely magical! I love the artist and the song that we shot (still top secret for now!) and we had such a great time shooting it! There were rose petals, heart shaped glasses and roof top drawings... but most magical of all: a heat rainbow in the sky, which I had never ever seen before!
I can't wait to share more on set pictures of this latest roof top adventure (soon!) with one of our biggest artist yet....

Summer is so awesome!

Hope you are having a lovely week-end!

My Latest Roof Top Adventure

Last week we shot a beautiful video with Mathématique in collaboration with local designer Coeur de loup (proper outfit pictures to come!). My sweet friend and very talented photographer Elisabeth, of Ruban Cassette, was nice enough to take our on set pictures. Aren't they just lovely?
I'm so happy you stopped by the blog today, it's so nice to see you!

Happy Wednesday!

My Latest Roof Top Adventure : Sneak Peak!

Last Night we shot our latest roof top video for OFF On The Roof. The weather was completely amazing, it was (finally) a true hot soon to be Summer day and we were so happy to shoot Mathématique for the second time. She is beautiful and so talented: Mathématique we love you!

The equally fabulous and talented designer Coeur de loup had accepted to dress Mathématique, Sophie and I. Her clothes are gorgeous and her style is awesome, thank you so much Nathalie! Full outfit post to come.

I had asked my friend Elisabeth from Ruban Cassette (who happens to be my very favorite photographer) to take our on set pictures. Amongst us was also a new collaborator of OFF On The Roof, Sébastien Ouellet, who will be helping us with photos and videos (he was shooting a behind the scenes yesterday, can't wait to see it!). Never did we have more cameras on an OFF On The Roof set. Thank you so much guys!

Elisabeth shared this sneak peak with us. I LOVE her yellow and turquoise inspiration, visit her blog to read more about it!

And Sébastien's Sneak Peak:
Can't wait to see it all! The video will be online within the next week, I'll keep you posted!

Until then, have a great day everyone!

My Latest Roof Top Adventure

Hey guys! How ready are we for this week-end to arrive, huh? I've had a really long and not so productive week, due to the fact that I spent most of my time day dreaming about what I would be up to if I was at the Cannes Film Festival again this year... SO glad it's ending this Sunday so I can get my productivity back! Note to self: next year, just go!

I wanted to share with you a few pics on my latest roof top video shoot for OFF On The Roof. The video is now online too, you can watch it here :)

I have many exciting plans for the week-end, notably a river side pic-nick, a new hair cut and a clothing swap. The weather promises to be warm and sunny plus I just realized it's a long week-end here in Canada so I'm doubly enthusiastic!
Do you have any special plans for this week-end?

I hope you have a good one!

Latest Roof Top Adventure

Hey guys, have you seen the latest video I did for OFF On The Roof? It was our highest roof to date. The shoot was supposed to take place on a rooftop terrasse that is the 24th floor of a Montréal hotel but once we got there we decided to climb even higher to get an un obstructed view (a fence surrounded the terrasse)... Might have been the first time I had vertigo yet!

Sneak Peak: OFF On The Roof Season Launch

I am getting ready to launch Season II of my video series OFF On The Roof (tomorrow!) and I am SO excited that we got to shoot our first video of the year with my favorite band Radio Radio! They are an Acadian hip hop group and I adore them.

I worked really hard on our new website, go check it out and let me know how you like it! The whole visual was inspired by the photo below, taken by my dear friend Elisabeth during this special photo shoot.
Have a good day everyone!

Up There

As I told you yesterday, Sophie and I did a special roof top photo shoot in preparation for the upcoming launch of the second season of our web series. These are some of my favorite shots that were taken. I can't wait to reveal more of this project (we shot the first video today and I am definitely excited!). Come May I'll get to show you guys the results!

In the mean time, I hope you have the loveliest week-end :)

On The Roof Again

Today Sophie and I were on the roof again for an impromptu photo shoot. We are trying to get all the images we need to out together our OFF On The Roof web site, which will be launched in May.

It was still too cold to be perfectly fun, but were are SO excited anyways that we will be shooting our first artist of 2011 on the roof tomorrow!
I'll share sneak peaks of the shoot soon, but in the mean time here is the outfit I had picked out. I'm loving really light thighs these days (and what about tights in sandals, super swoon!).

Thanks to Ramiro for playing photographer with us and to François-Samuel for letting us take over his roof!

Behind The Scenes

As you know, we did a little photo shoot on our photographer friend Elisabeth's roof this week-end. I had also asked our friend Andrew to come along as he recently got interested in photography and I thought it would be great to have "behind the scenes" pictures. I'm the type of girl that documents everything! And Elisabeth has the prettiest style (ever) and so we like to have pictures of her working too :)
These totally fit my thinking outside the box resolution. They have so much movement and the over exposition kind of captures how cold it was. They have emotional depth and for that I love them SO!

Do you like uncanny photography too?

Sneak Peak: Roof Top Photo Shoot

On Saturday we were up on my friend Elisabeth's roof for a special photo shoot concerning the launch on the second season of OFF On The Roof, a musical videos series I produce and direct with my friend Sophie Bernier.
It was a really hard shoot because it was extremely cold and unbelievably windy. Although our theme was Summer, it's still feels very much like Winter up here.

Thank you so much to Elisabeth for her patience, talent and all around fabulousness. I'll be sharing more soon!

Being Creative On A Tuesday

I want to thank you guys SO much for the love and support you showed me in regards to this post. Becoming a freelancer has been the best so far, I am enjoying it SO very much and am feeling better than ever (the world is my oyster!)

Yesterday Sophie and I braved the cold to go experiment with photography on the lake. You know we love holding our business meetings by the lake in the summer time and so it was funny to be on the frozen lake today. Not to mention breathtakingly beautiful. It inspired me for a short art film I am developing and really got us excited for the next season of OFF On The Roof. We will start shooting again in May and I seriously cannot wait, shooting music videos on roofs is the coolest thing ever.

Sophie and I are really into dynamic pics and so we tried  to photograph hair movement... If only it wasn't too cold for our HD cam!

A (Fabulous) Year In Review

I feel so blessed that 2010 was such an amazing year for me. I feel like I am coming into my own (geez I'm a late bloomer) and things are finally on track. 2010 was filled with glamorous adventures, inspiring relationships and dreams come true. I thank God SO much for this past year and am WAY excited for 2011.

Many amazing things happened in 2010 and I could easily make this post (way) too long. Here are a few ofthe things I will forever remember about 2010:

I accomplished a major dream by attending the mythical Cannes Film Festival
I never thought that our short film Raymond May Have Rabies would be shown in a special category at the Cannes Film Festival and to me it was a MAJOR dream come true. I'm so glad I got to go, see unbelievable movies, meet amazing people and attend the most glamorous events! I'm especially glad that there is still room to grow in this dream, because the ultimate Cannes dream is to have a feature film in the Official Selection. I am confident that one day it will happen! I remember in 2009 watching Quentin Tarantino go up the mythical red carpet stairs to attend the premiere of Inglorious Basterds and crying my eyes out. It's so unreal that I got to walk that same red carpet this year. I will never forget it. Somehow this clip of Les amours imaginaires, presented in the Un certain regard category (and one of my favorite movies of 2010 for sure) kind of captures in an odd way how I felt in Cannes. Titillated. And kind of in love. With all the beauty.

I emancipated myself creatively by directing OFF On The Roof videos
One of the best experience for me in 2010 was directing and producing 12 music videos that all took place on roofs. It was my dear friend Sophie's idea (she always has the BEST and most unusual ideas) to do one to promote the festival she programs, but we got hooked! We decided to make more, always with the same concept: one band, one song, one roof, one take. OFF On The Roof was born and we had the BEST time making them. Sophie is someone that is very inspiring to me and making these videos was the first step to creative emancipation. I am very excited that we will start shooting videos again come this spring! Here is our most popular video from 2010:

I took on new producing challenges with Spirafilm's collective project in Super-8MM film
After spending a big part of 2009 financing Spirafilm's Québec Super-8 project (8 short film directed by 8 indie filmmakers in Super-8MM), we finally started shooting in May of 2010. Yee-haw! The premiere is already set for June 2011 (can't wait!) and the project has been picked up for viewing at some major festivals in Canada, Europe and the Middle East. It's been amazing working with the filmmakers and their cast and crew and I feel so lucky to produce movies with them.

I created Virginie's Cinema / started a blog !
My first goal in starting the blog was to document my journey as a producer / Spirafilm Art Director. I am one busy career girl and don't want to forget anything along the way! It was great timing as 2010 is the year that I produced the most movies so far, got the most press interest (tv and radio!), started travelling for work and created a Ciné-club in my city.
The blog is also ment to help me find my artistic voice. After hosting radio shows for 5 years I definitely needed a change and am super happy with blogging, though I think my real voice has yet to be heard (I'm starting to know how to express it though... more to come in 2011!). The blog was also an incentive to take it up a notch when it comes to style as a way of personal expression.

I celebrated one year of mariage. Awwwww
What else can I say? Being married to your soulmate is awesome.

And made some truly amazing friends
I had one of the best summers of my life hanging out (and dancing everywhere!) with my Crew. Making new friends when moving to a different city can be challenging and I am SO happy that my friends found me!

2010 was everything I dreamed it would be and so much more. I am already hard at work on the next stage of my career and 2011 looks SO promising!

I wish you all the best for this new year. Dream big, work hard, and LOVE!

Much Love

The Mon Chéri OFF On The Roof video we made with I.No is getting much love as it is our most watched video so far (and it's only been online for 2 days!).

Amélie's voice is just so pretty and the song gives me shivers everytime.

Don't you just love it?

Mon Chéri

Last tuesday I had a busy busy day. I had meetings all day for Spirafilm's Ciné-club project (hence the dress) and took time to go up on the roof before working all night on the next short film I'm producing. We were filming our 12th OFF On The Roof video with I.No. Amélie has such a beautiful voice and her performance was the most touching so far. The song called Mon Chéri talks about loosing a close one to illness. Made me really think how grateful I am for allthe blessings in my life.
